Reversing. - A premature explosion for reversing is produced by actuating the fuel pumps of one or more cylinders by the driving-members normally actuating the pumps of cylinders the cranks of which are oppositely directed. On moving the reversing lever v, the cams f, h which normally work the pumps b, d of cylinders II, III (not shown) are moved to work the pumps a, c of cylinders I, IV to give a reverse impulse. As the crank shaft reverses, the friction-driven sleeve p moves the rod o until the slotted bar m engages a stop and the cams e, f, g, h are moved to their normal positions for reverse running.
