Starting. - T h e piston of an engine in w h i c h combustible mixture is compressed in the front end of the cylinder forces some m i x t u r e through a pipe 47, with check valve 48, into a reservoir, whence it is readmitted to the cylinder through a hand - controlled valve 50, to give the initial impulse. Reversing.-The valve 17 controlling the admission of combustible mixture is worked from one or other of two cams 35 through an adjustable lever 25, lever 22 and valve-rod 19. The lever 25 is pivoted on a bell-crank 28 which is movable into various positions about a centre position 31 to bring one or other of the projections 33, 34 into the path of the corresponding cam, to effect reversal of the engine.
