Fourstroke -cycle engines, in which the charge is not admitted until the end of the suction stroke, are constructed with one piston 8 working in the other 10, which serves to control the admission port 9. This port is also controlled by an additional slide valve 1, which also controls the exhaust port 7. The admission passage may traverse the valve 1.
