Abstract

567,037. Reciprocating pumps. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLATR, C. C. S. Aug. 24, 1942, No. 11917. [Class 102 (i)] A reciprocating pump, particularly a high-pressure pump for delivering small quantities of de-icing liquid on aircraft, comprises a plunger 4 operated by a cam 14 and a smaller diameter piston 8 which normally is held in contact with the plunger by a spring 10. The plunger is formed with an annular recess 21, whilst the cylinder 3 has inlet and outlet ports 16, 19 connected by passages 16A, 19A to one or more longitudinal channels 17 which communicate by a port 18 with the annular pump chamber 22. When the cam 14 is rotated, the plunger and piston are lifted together, against the action of the spring 10, until the inlet port 16 is closed. The piston is then forced upwards at a greater speed than the plunger until the recess 21 opens the outlet port 19. The spring 10 then rapidly forces the piston down to discharge liquid from the chamber 22, through the port 18, the channel 17 and the port 19. The piston contacts the plunger before or after the latter reaches the top of its stroke. The volume of liquid discharged per stroke is therefore the area of the annulus 22 multiplied by, the stroke of the plunger between the closing of the inlet port and the opening of the outlet port. A number of such pumps may be combined in a single unit.
