708,682. Reciprocating pumps. MEADER, C. W. Feb. 18, 1953 [Feb. 18, 1952], No. 4308/52. Class 102 (1). [Also in Group XXX] A reciprocating pump comprises two parts, part 1 carrying a piston 17 and an axially movable cylinder 4 and part 2 comprising a plate 10 with an outlet 11; the parts 1 and 2 are spaced apart and secured together to allow access of the material being pumped all around the pump body when the pump is embedded in the material. Fig. 1 shows the parts connected by columns 3. The piston 17 and cylinder 4 may be connected to pistons 15, 6 respectively actuated by pressure fluid. From the position shown in Fig 1, pressure fluid is supplied to port 20 to move both pistons 6, 15 to the left. Pressure fluid is then applied to port 21 to move piston 6 to the right so that the cylinder 4 cuts off a quantity of the material and seats on the seating 14. Pressure fluid then supplied to the port 22 moves piston 15 so that piston 17 ejects the trapped material through the'outlet. The piston 6 may have holes communicating with cylinder 4 to reduce the quantity of pressure fluid used. Instead of providing seating 14, the cylinder 4 may pass through a sealing ring or its end may be tapered to enter a tapered recess carried by plate 10.
