Abstract
566,955. Steam generators. HINDLE, T. May 11, 1943, No. 7448. [Class 123 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a flash boiler comprising evaporative, superheater and economiser sections B, C and D respectively located within a casing A fitted near the bottom with fire-bars a, flooding of the sections B, C, when the boiler is shut down, is prevented by the inclusion in the hot water down-pipe B<1> between the sections D, B of a check valve G loaded to at least 20 pounds per square inch. Preferably, the valve G comprises a seating g<2> and a slidably-mounted closure member g<3>, the latter being controlled by a spring g<5>, and pressure-equalizing passages g<6> being provided. Feed water is supplied to the boiler from a tank E and through a check valve F by a pump E steam being withdrawn through a throttle valve C<1>.
