Abstract
566,672. Forging; stamping. HELLIWELLS, Ltd., and RANSOM, J. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 12965. Drawings to Specification. [Class 83 (iv)] In stamping sheet metal as described in Specifications 564,650 and 565,681, the die is mounted on a steel or iron backing plate that is held to the press-head by an electromagnetic holder. After shaping the sheet by pressure, the holder is de-energized, leaving the die in contact with the work. The press-head can then be used to strike one or more blows to finish the work by drop stamping. After the last blow, the current is switched on again and the die is again attached to the press-head. The holder also facilitates the changing of dies.
