Abstract
693,622. Matting heat-exchangers. HOUDAILLE-HERSHEY CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1950 [March 8, 1949], No. 4129/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group XIII] A method of making a heat-exchanger comprises forming a groove 13 in a metal plate 11, placing a straight portion of a sinuous tube 12 in the bottom of said groove, which has a depth greater than the diameter of the tube, and deforming the plate at 23, 24 to anchor the tube to the plate. The formation of the grooves 23, 24 may be carried out by means of a pair of co-operating dies or rollers 16, 17, and when a die is used it is preferably of such size as to receive an entire heat exchange unit, Fig. 1 (not shown). The deformations 23, 24 may be continuous along the length of a main groove 13 or they may be formed only at spaced points along the groove.
