834,112. Making tubes; rolling. HUET, A. Nov. 20, 1957 [Nov. 26, 1956], No. 36165/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] A heat-exchanger tube a, the wall of which is formed into a plurality of hollow fins forming part of the flow cross-section of the tube, is given an increased wall thickness at its more highly stressed zones by a method which comprises heating a preformed tube of uniform wall thickness and then applying pressure, e.g. by means of rollers b in the direction F towards the tube axis to compress the wall at predetermined points and thereby to provide the zones of increased thickness, a mandrel c being positioned in the tube during the compressing operation. Fig. 2 shows such a tube in which the increased thickness is provided at points f and h.
