815,096. Jointing by tube expanding. LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT. Sept. 16, 1955 [Dec. 22, 1954], No. 26536/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] In a tubular heat exchanger (see Group XIII) in which each tube 1 is provided with transverse fins 2 spaced apart by distance pieces 3, a method of securing the fins in position comprises applying end pressure, e.g. by means of clamp plates 4, to a group of fins and distance pieces placed on the tube, said pressure acting to load the fins and distance pieces to not more than 80 per cent of the elastic limit of the material from which they are made, and then passing a mandrel 6 through the tube to expand the tube into contact with the fins and distance pieces and thereby secure these in position on the tube.
