Abstract
829,103. Making heat exchanger tubes; extruding. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 25, 1957 [Jan. 31, 1956], No. 3050/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] A heat-exchanger comprises two tubes 10, 11 of unequal external sizes which are disposed in contact with each other for a substantial part of the axial length of the smaller tube which tube lies within a passage 10b (Fig. 1) formed by portions of the wall of the larger tube and wholly outside the bore thereof. Figs. 1 and 4 show extruded forms of the tube 10 in which after positioning of the smaller tube 11, the lips 10a (Fig. 1) or 15a (Fig. 4) are deformed by rollers in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 5 so as to embrace the tube 11. Fig. 7 shows a tube generally similar to that of Fig. 1 but made by deforming a thin-walled tube. Fig. 9 shows a further extruded form in which the smaller tube is inserted in a suitable bore formed in the larger tube. The two tubes may be made of different materials.
