Abstract

The metal to be cooled (1) has a hole of radius (R1), and into this is fitted a tube (2) of corrugated section, its o.d. being very slightly less than the diameter of the hole. The tube is then stread out from inside, the diameter of the final spreading tool being equal to the hole diameter less twice the tube wall thickness. This ensures a good thermal contact between the metal block and the tube. The tube material should have a ductility of 10% or more. The periphery of the tube is 5% greater than the circumference of the hole.
