Abstract

553,157. Making heat exchangers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 6, 1942, No. 10971. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1941. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] A heat-exchange finned tube is made by forming a groove 11 in a strip of good heat conducting material, the strip being bent as at 20 on each side of the groove. An open seam tube is placed in the groove 11 with the seam 13 downwards and the assembly is placed in a die 17 with side walls 21 that confine the edges of the strip so that on descent of the die 18 the strip is flattened crowding the metal closely into engagement with the tube and closing the seam 13 as shown in Fig. 1. Instead of the dies an equivalent roll pass may be employed. The element is finished by brazing. An element with more than one tube may be formed.
