Abstract
1328302 Making heat exchanger tubes; welding by pressure ESCOA FINTUBE CORP 14 June 1971 [25 June 1970] 27706/71 Headings B3A and B3R [Also in Division F4] A finned heat exchange tube is made by resistance welding a metal strip 10 having a plurality of fin segments to the surface of a tube 20. As described, a metal strip 10 is first punched to form the segments which may be twisted out of the plane of the strip, after which the strip 10 is helically wound on to the tube 20 as the tube is rotated and axially moved relative to a welding station. High frequency electrical current is passed through the strip 10 and tube 20 by electrodes 41 and 42 and the edge of the strip 10 forced into engagement with the tube 20 by a flanged roller 50 or a flanged ceramic plate (60) (Fig. 7, not shown). The base of the strip 10 is guided and supported by a ceramic member (54) (Fig. 6, not shown).
