566,290. Roofs, floors, &c. LONDON FERRO-CONCRETE CO., Ltd., and MUNZ, S. Feb. 10, 1943, No. 2232. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforced-concrete slab for roofs, floors, &c., adapted to be supported at its edges by walls 10 and capable of withstanding bending stresses in both directions, is constituted by in situ concrete 1 which is laid on permanent shuttering in the form of elongated precastconcrete elements 2 located horizontally in contact side by side, the concrete and the elements uniting into a monolithic structure, and the said elements 2 being provided with longitudinal reinforcing rods 3 and the concrete 1 with reinforcing rods 4 disposed transversely to the said elements 2 and rods 3 on the tension side of the neutral axis of the structure. The elements 2 may be of L, inverted T, or channel section, and holes 5 are formed in the vertical flanges thereof to receive the reinforcement 4. The slab may be supported by a number of vertical columns, or intermediate beams at right angles, in which cases the slab is subjected to negative bending stresses, and here the transverse reinforcing rods 4 are bowed upwardly to lie near the upper surface of the concrete 1, longitudinal reinforcing rods also being located near the upper surface of the concrete, where necessary.
