Abstract

578,814. Casting concrete bridges, floors &c. in situ. KONYI, K. HAJNAL-. March 13, 1944, No. 4645. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] Reinforced concrete structures, e.g., bridges, or floors, comprise one or more precast, pre-stressed units constituting at least part of the permanent shuttering for the casting in situ of the concrete to complete the structure, the precast, pre-stressed unit or units being capable of supporting the in situ part and incidental loads occurring during erection without being propped. The pre-cast, pre-stressed units are preferably of the shape in section of a flat bottom steel rail, but may be of inverted T, I, L or U-shape &c. A monolithic slab may be formed by juxtaposed pre-cast, pre-stressed units 1, Fig. 1, having holes 5 in the webs for the passage of transverse reinforcement 4, in situ concrete 2 then being cast between the units either flush with the tops thereof, or to a level above the tops of the units. Additional reinforcement 3 may be utilised for the in situ concrete. The in situ concrete need be cast only to a height sufficient to enclose the transverse reinforcement 4, shuttering then being applied to the tops of the units to cover the spaces between them, after which further concrete is cast above the units and shuttering. The pre-cast, pre-stressed units 1, Fig. 4, may be spaced to support hollow slabs 8 above which the in situ concrete 2 is cast, the transverse reinforcement 4 being located above the units. The pre-cast, pre-stressed units may be in the form of hollow beams, with or without projecting flanges and hollow slabs may be located to occupy part of the space between the units. A narrow structure, e.g., a footbridge may be composed of a trough-shaped pre-cast, prestressed unit 1, filled with concrete 2, cast in situ.
