Abstract
564,204. Transformers ; reactors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1943, No. 1849. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1942. [Class 38 (ii)] In a constant current transformer or reactor comprising relatively movable windings 12, 13 on a core 10, the movable winding 13 is so lightened, as by the use of aluminium wire or by floats attached thereto, as to be semibuoyant in the oil filling and is arranged to be slidable vertically along guides 14, thus dispensing with counterweights and their associated linkwork. To improve the regulation, the movable winding is subjected to a biassing force which varies with the distance between the windings. This force is provided by a solenoid winding 31 connected in series with the secondary 13 and mounted on the main core structure 10, the solenoid being associated with a core 36 attached through a frame-work 38 to the movable winding structure 13. The regulation may be adjusted by variation of the number of turns on the solenoid winding or of the weights 41 applied to the movable core 36.
