[Class 40 (v)] A resonant circuit particularly for operation at high frequency comprises an inductance in parallel with both a variable condenser, and a further condenser in series with a second variable condenser ganged to the first, the laws of the ganged variable condensers being such that if one of the series connected condensers is shorted or changed in value the frequency change produced is substantially independent of the setting of the ganged condenser. For this purpose, a ganged condenser arranged in series is designed in accordance with a special law dependent on whether it or the further condenser is shorted or changed in value. The further condenser may be variable over a range to provide a fine tuning control independent of the setting of the ganged variable condensers or it may be shorted by a switch so that a single oscillator serves alternately as a transmitter and as the local oscillator in a superheterodyne receiver to receive the same signal frequency as the transmitter previously was transmitting.
