Abstract

562,441. Rotary pumps or engines. BATH, W. W., and A.B.C., MOTORS, Ltd. March 11, 1943, No. 3965. [Class 110 (ii)] In a sliding vane type of pump or engine, the rotor is' built-up of four segments g<1> pivoted on pins i which are secured to end discs j<2> by screws j The pins are reduced in diameter in parts leaving parts to act as journals. Fig. 1 shows a pump having vanes f with connecting webs f<2>, the two webs being located at opposite ends of the rotor so as to clear one another during the sliding movement of the vanes. 'The vane tips slide on flats e<2> in a ported sleeve e, packing or antifriction metal a<4> being provided in the casing. Shoes f<1> of anti-friction material are fitted to the vane tips. A removable strainer c<1> is located on the suction side of the pump. Stuffing boxes k are provided. A hub is hollow to allow entry of lubricant from a reservoir n to pass through a non-return valve o. The ported sleeve e may be dispensed with. In this case the vanes are toothed at their inner edges, the teeth of one vane being slidable in the notches of the opposite vane.
