Abstract

508,199. Rotary engines. JOHNSON, H. G., and LONSDALE. C. J. G. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29329. [Class 110 (ii)] Sliding vanes 4 in slots 5 of a rotor 2, have their tips curved so that the point of minimum clearance between a vane tip and the bore of the casing 1 is maintained constant but moves between the points A, B during one revolution of the rotor. Lateral pins 6 on the vanes support bearings 7 which run on the inner rings 8 of bearings 9 to prevent the vane tips rubbing against the casing bore under centrifugal action. Slippers may be used in place of the bearings 7. Slots may be cut in the tips and sides of the vanes. The Provisional Specification states that the vanes may be hollow and cooled internally, and that two or more engines may be compounded.
