Abstract

399,357. Lubricating rotary engines. BISCHOF, B., 16, Tobelstrasse, Winterthur, Switzerland. Jan. 6, 1933, No. 482. Convention date, Jan. 6, 1932. [Class 12 (ii).] The tips of sliding vanes 3 rest in grooves 8 in shoes 7 which slide around the bores of end rings 5 in such a way that a wedge of lubricating oil is caused to form under each shoe to support the shoe by the " Mitchellbearing " effect. The rings 5 also run in oil formed as a wedge. The inner ends of the vanes rest on the periphery of discs 9. The rings 5 may have only one inwardly-extending leg flush with the casing bore. In a modified arrangement the tip of each vane is attached to a cylindrical block pivoted in a shoe 7 which is formed with tapering recesses in its sides to trap the oil collected by the front portion of each shoe. A further arrangement embodies a groove in the periphery of the rotor to accommodate the shoes. Fig. 8 shows the runner ring 5 formed in two portions screwed together and being shaped as a dove-tail in cross section to embrace the shoe 7 and a portion of the vanes 3. Pressure oil is supplied by a. pump 23 and admitted behind each runner ring at a point 24. For the rings and shoes nitrated material may be used.
