Abstract
425,447. Rotary engines. FIXEN, O. V., 17A, Võstmannagatan, Stockholm. Aug. 7, 1934, No. 22821. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1933. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine or pump comprises a screw 2 which rotates around its own axis 20 and the axis 20 moves around a circle 21 whose centre 22 coincides with the axis of a housing 1 having threads cut in its bore to co-operate with the screw to form expanding and contracting chambers a-d along the length of the apparatus. The screw and housing have other than circular cross-sections. Either the screw or housing may rotate and the other remain stationary, or both may rotate. Fig. 1 shows a shaft 8 having an eccentric pin 7 coupled to the screw 2, and a stub shaft 10, co-axial with 7, which rolls around a surface 11. The edge of the shaft 10 at the base may have a rim to provide a bearing surface on the surface 11. In a modified arrangement two engines are arranged on the same axis having inlet ports at the ends and a common exhaust in the middle. A flexible shaft is coupled to the screw rotor, at the base of a hole bored into the screw.
