Abstract

394,423. Rotary engines. COX, A. F., Carlton Lodge, Thicket Road, Anerley, London. Feb. 9, 1932, No. 3809. [Class 110 (ii).] In an engine or pump of the type described in Specification 394,422 the vane tips and flats E2 are inclined one pair in one direction and the other in the opposite direction, although both pairs may be inclined in the same direction. The pairs of vanes may abut on their inner edges, or each pair may be formed of one plate. One pair of vanes has its inner ends bifurcated to straddle the centre portions of the other pair of vanes. In another arrangement the engine may be constructed as described in Specification 394,422 but with the vane tops and the flats arranged obliquely. Passages may be arranged to allow free movement of fluid contained within the centre space of the rotor. A loose sleeve D<4> surrounds the piston. This sleeve is slotted for the vanes, and is longer, axially, than the piston. Cutaway portions E<3> prevent fluid being trapped by the vane tips. The edges of the vanes, and/or the flats on the rotor, may be provided with hard metal shoes or bearing strips. The discharge port may be made longer than the suction port.
