484,631. Valves. SEIFERT, C. H. May 4, 1937, No. 12759. Convention date, May 4, 1936. [Class 7 (vi)] [Also in Group XXIX] A packing for rotary valves comprises two split rings 13 connected by at least two bars 14 of which the trailing sides 16 are oblique to radial lines 19 so as to cause the bars to be forced outwardly into sealing contact with the valve casing 8a when the valve rotates in the normal direction. The exhaust valve 5a shown has the leading sides 15 of the bars 14 also arranged obliquely. The bars fit in longitudinal grooves on opposite sides of the valve port 9a, the sides of these grooves being parallel and obliquely arranged. The rings 13 fit in circumferential grooves, and their split ends are on the same side of the valve as the port 9a. The valve may be arranged to serve more than one cylinder. In the case of an inlet valve, one of the bars 14 is located near the trailing edge of the valve port.
