562,306. Beam deflection valves. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., JOFEH, L., and WILLIAMS, B. C. FLEMING-. May 7, 1941, No. 6195/42. Divided out of 560,689. [Class 39 (i)] In a beam deflection valve the deflecting plates 1, 2 are integral with the target electrodes 4, 5. As shown in Fig. 1, the plates and electrodes are formed in a block 9 constructed as a hollow resonator, with load loop 10 ; a grid 6 prevents secondary electron flow between the targets. In another form, the electron beam 3, Fig. 2, is directed against the upper end only of the combined plates and targets 21, 22 and 23, 24 ; one of the latter has a bent extension 27 overlapping the returned end of the other target. The plates 21, 22 are short-circuited at their lower end by a plate 28 and are of a length to form a quarter wave resonator ; the output leads 31 are connected a short way along the plates. In a mixer circuit, the two oscillations are connected to deflector plates 35, 38, Fig. 3, in sequence, the target 41 being integral with the plate 41 ; intermediate frequency is taken from the target 42. Valves as described in Specification 560,689 having curved deflector plates may also be constructed as described above.
