561,716. Shafts. RUBBISSOW, G. A. Jan. 12, 1943, No. 559. A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 on July 13, 1943. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups II, XXVI and XXXIII] A screw propeller, turbine, shaft, or like centrifugal or' rotary apparatus or machine element, has one or more hollow compartments 11, 35 filled with one or more different fillers F, F<1>, F<2>, F<3> which expand on setting to stress the walls of the compartments. After filling, the compartments may be hermetically sealed, or the opening closed by a non-return valve 21, a stopper 25, 36, or by quick-setting cement. Prior to setting, the filler may be compressed, and during setting, the walls of the compartments may be heated. The filler may comprise Portland cement reinforced concrete containing not less than 2¢ per cent gypsum, or a very small percentage of aluminium or like metallic powder. Examples of resinous and other suitable fillers are given in the Specification. The propeller 10 may have internal walls 29, outer walls which may be of uniform thickness as at 12, 13 or tapered as at 16, and reinforcements such as 30-32.
