Abstract

Moulded bodies are made by mixing fly-ash with Portland cement, the fly-ash being several times greater in weight than the Portland cement, and if desired with a suitable quantity of filling material such as sharp sand or breeze, forming the mixture to shape in moulds and causing it to set by heating for a sufficient time in an atmosphere of steam. The moulded bodies may be cast from a liquid mixture such as a slurry containing clay slip or may be moulded from damp powder. The steam may be at atmospheric or superatmospheric pressure, and the time of treatment may be from three to six hours or more. Reinforced sheet material may be prepared by moulding the mixture round a reinforcing mesh. Specification 411,267 and U.S.A. Specification 1,886,933 are referred to.
