Abstract

465,922. Moulding asbestos cement. BROWN, T. F. K., CHICK, H. E., and GREEN, L. G. Oct. 18, 1935, No. 30035/34. [Class 87 (ii)] Asbestos cement articles such as cisterns, tubes, tiles &c., are formed in a perforated mould 1 from a aqueous mixture which is shaped in the mould and has moisture discharged from it by pressure from a mandrel 10 which is inflated by air introduced between the mandrel and a stationary core 12. The mould 1 may be made of a number of plates held together by bolts 9. The sides and bottom have a water-pervious liner 5 of paper, wire or textile fabric which may if desired have an inner lining of paper &c., which adheres to the moulded article and is subsequently stripped off. The mandrel 10 comprises a rectangular rubber bag having an air valve 11 and the core 12 may be solid or hollow. The material is preferably mixed in the dry state and then has water added. A suitable mixture consists of 8 1b. of cement, 1 lb. of asbestos and 4 points of water. When moulding tubes, the perforated end plates may also apply pressure.
