Abstract

Lightweight cellular material is made by mixing a foam with a stiff paste of clay and water and drying and firing the mixture. The clay paste preferably consists of approximately 30 per cent by weight of water and the mixture with the foam may be dried by contact with, or in moulds of, water-absorbing material such as plaster of Paris and then fired. The product may be used as an aggregate in place of sand in mortar. In an example 10.5 lbs. of ground china clay containing 5 per cent water was mixed with 1,875 lbs. water to form a thick paste and then a foam of 250 ml. of a 5 per cent aqueous solution of "Cemor" (Registered Trade Mark) added and the mass mixed, dried and fired.
