Abstract

560,561. Indexing-chucks. BENTON & STONE, Ltd., and MILNER, C. E. Feb. 22, 1943, No. 2898. [Class 83 (iii)] An indexing-chuck for use on milling and other machines comprises a hollow body b with cover a attached by screw c. A hollow spindle h has a flange i fitting in the cover a and has clamped to it -a ring m resting on a seating n on the cover. A ball bearing k is located between the flange i and a flange j on the cover. An annulus o secured to the cover is notched to receive an index bolt r operated by a trigger s located in a handle u carried by the ring m. Slidable in the spindle - h is a sleeve z with a stem by which it is secured to a fluid pressure piston f returned by springs g. Supported on a ball race 2 within the sleeve z is a further sleeve w serving to actuate a bevel closing collet v retained in the spindle by a flanged screwed ring. Cooling tools and work.-The cover a also supports a trough 3 for catching and delivering at 4 coolant used in the operation. Pressure fluid may also be admitted above the piston for passage at 6 to the collet to blow out cuttings.
