Abstract

558,412. Chucks. WARD & CO., Ltd., H. W., and WILLIAMS, W. T. Dec. 10, 1942, No. 17606. [Class 83 (iii)] Cuttings are excluded from bevel closing chucks by a screwed sleeve f, Fig. 1, having a shoulder engaging the front surface of the collet for effecting closure. A plate h on the sleeve has an aperture i of just sufficient size to clear the bar stock. The plate is attached to the sleeve by screws k to permit a series of plates covering a range of sizes to be employed. In a modification the plate is secured inside the sleeve by a wire clip or spring ring n, Fig. 3, engaging a groove o in the sleeve. Similar plates are shown as applied to a bevel closing chuck actuated by a sliding sleeve, at the front of the chuck, acting through a series of balls.
