Abstract

1,171,959. Cooling cutting tools; chucks. ERICKSON TOOL CO. 27 Nov., 1967, No. 53873/67. Headings B3B and B3C. A cutting tool comprising a shank 2 secured in a quick change chuck 17, and a drill blade 5 secured in the shank and supplied with coolant vapour from a conduit 48, through passages 44, 41, 40, 35, 36 and 37. Condensed coolant fluid in the passages is re-misted and its temperature reduced by passing it through nozzles 62 located in the ends of the passage 37. Carbide buttons 65 are provided for supporting the tool against chatter after the point of blade 5 breaks through when drilling. Shank 2 is held against rotation in the chuck by keys and keyways 20, 22 and 21, 23, and is held against axial movement therein by a nut 26 having lugs 28, 29 which press on the flange 19 of the shank. A bush 45 on the chuck 17 is held against rotation by a rod 60 which abuts a fixed support 61.
