[Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A hydraulic control device of the kind in which a transmitting piston or bellows 21,, Fig. 1, is actuated in a cylinder 12 connected by a pipe 11 to a receiving cylinder 40, Fig. 2, fitted with a spring-controlled piston 41 or bellows connected to a crank with an operating arm 46 connected to the actuated member is provided with normally closed valve means 19, 22 so as to lock the liquid against movement except under the influence of the actuator. The piston 21 is depressed by crank mechanism 30, 31, 33, the crank arm 33 passing freely through the crank hub and being controlled by a spring 39 and cam 38 so as to move radially of the hub so as to increase the leverage as the crank 33 is moved counterclockwise, thereby compensating for the increased pressure of a spring 47 upon the piston 41 as this piston is raised. Movement of the piston 41 occurs only when the valve opens at a predetermined pressure. The return movement is controlled by the valve 22 normally closed by a spring 23, the valve 22 being formed at the bottom of a tubular stem 25 integral with an enlarged stem 27 guided by a passage 26 in the piston. On raising of the piston 21 the valve 22 opens under the suction produced by the piston, the pressure in the pipe 11 due to the piston 41, and by the dash-pot effect of liquid trapped between the stem 27 and an abutment disc 29 which limits the downward movement of the valve 22 relatively to the piston. The spring 47 can be connected to the piston 41 by a cam-and-lever device similar to the adjustable crank described in connection with the transmitter. The valve 22 may be replaced by a cylindrical lift valve with a conical face which fits in the bore 26 and is depressed by a spring in the bore 26. The valve is connected to the piston by a clutch device which permits the piston to move downwards relatively to the valve but which raises the valve on upward movement of the piston. The cylinder 21 is fitted with a reservoir 34 which is connected to the cylinder by an aperture 35 in the raised position of the piston.
