Abstract

653,286. Hydraulic shock absorbers. GIRLING, Ltd. Aug. 26, 1948, No. 22491. [Class 108(iii)] In a direct-acting hydraulic shock absorber, a passage 21 for liquid through the piston 17 is controlled by a valve or plunger 31 which is adapted to be moved into a position to close the passage by engagement with a part 32 of the cylinder 10 on an excessive return or rebound movement of the piston 17. The plunger 31 is stepped as shown, and is outwardly pressed by a spring 33 which however may be dispensed with. The plunger 13 is maintained in the passage-opening position (Fig. 1, not shown), by differential pressure acting on its ends. The remainder of the shock absorber may be as described in Specification 613,960.
