Abstract
536,783. Actuating valves. COCKBURNS, Ltd., RODGER, J., and GRANT, T. Feb. 3, 1940, No. 2135. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] Emergency control mechanism for stop valves of the type described in Specification 239,982, [Class 135], incorporating a servomotor or balancing piston controlled by a pilot valve actuated by the stop valve spindle comprises an emergency control element 3 adapted to disconnect the throttle and/or governor controls before closing the valve. The emergency control lever 3, the throttle control lever 5, and governor control lever 4 are loosely mounted on shaft 6 corresponding to the shaft 30 shown in Figs. 5 and 6 of Specification 239,982. The boss of the lever 4, 5 has castellations 4b adapted normally to be held by a spring 8 in engagement with a key 7 in the shaft 6. The boss of the lever 3 has similar castellations and has a cam-slot 9 co-operating with a pin 10 mounted in the shaft so that the initial movement of the lever disengages the lever 4, 5 while further movement engages the lever 3 with the shaft and moves a normally axially-located screwed spindle 11 to close the stop valve. The lever 3 is operated from a remote point by a weighted hand-lever 15 connected to the lever 3 by a flexible cable 12 passing over guide pulleys 13, 14 A second cable may be provided for re-opening the valve.
