In a carburetter whose throttling member is provided with a braking device for slowing down the closing movement of the member when the latter is approaching the slow running position, a mechanism adapted to be displaced between two end-of-travel abutments transmits to the mobile element of the braking device, the closing movements of the throttling member and the conventional regulating device serving to determine the degree of minimum opening of the throttling member is interposed between the throttling member and the mechanism. Fig. 1 shows the parts in the slow running position. The butterfly valve 2 is held shut by its restoring spring (not shown). The degree by which the butterfly valve is shut is determined by the contact of the screw 12 with the plate 13 and the arm 10b with the abutment 24. When the butterfly valve control is released, the valve being open, the valve is repelled towards its slow running position by its restoring spring moving freely until the screw 12 comes into contact with the plate 13 of the lever 10. Thereafter the piston 7 is driven downwardly and the closing movement of the throttle is braked since petrol can flow out from beneath the piston only through the annular space between the piston and the inner wall of the cylinder 6. The pipe 1, chamber 4, cylinder 6 and duct 17 can all be cast together and the cover 5 and masking cover 18 can also be cast in one piece. The lever may comprise two separate arms 10a and 10b keyed on a shaft 11 or may be made in one piece.
