Abstract

278,034. Brown, C., and Brown & Barlow, Ltd. May 25, 1926. Spray carburettors. -A subsidiary supply of air to the fuel passage is controlled from or by the throttle actuating means in such a manner that, throughout the whole range of throttle movement, a relatively small opening of the throttle valve is adapted to bring about the complete closure of the subsidiary air inlet and a relatively small closing movement of the throttle valve is adapted to bring about the full opening of the said inlet. The subsidiary air which enters at a is adapted to be controlled by a pad c mounted on an arm b which engages frictionally the throttle valve spindle e. Opening movement of the throttle, in a clockwise direction, closes the air inlet, by bringing the pad c on to the part a, whilst closing movement opens the air inlet by bringing the arm b against an abutment f. In a modification, a subsidiary lever actuated by a projection from the throttle spindle acts upon the arm b to ensure that the subsidiary air inlet is closed when the throttle is closed. The friction device may be entirely separate from the carburettor, and incorporated in the. control mechanism thereof.
