Abstract
554,328. Mechanical presses ; linkwork. WARD, Ltd., T. W., and WELBURY, S. G. June 24, 1942, No. 8676. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] The eccentric bush 14, which rotates with the eccentric arm 13 of the crankshaft 12 to impart vertical reciprocation to the slide 15, is secured to the eccentric arm by an annular lug and groove, or spigot and socket, engagement between the bush and a securing member 19. As shown, the securing member has flats which engage flats 20 formed on a reduced part of the eccentric arm, and an annular V-shaped lug 18 engages an annular V-shaped groove 17 in the bush, the member being tightened up by a screwthreaded locking collar 22. The lug 18 should not enter completely into the groove 17 ; for this reason, the lug may be a slightly oversize fit, or the angle thereof may be larger than that of the groove. The lug may be split radially, to facilitate wedging action. In modifications :-(1) The annulus of the lug may be interrupted to define arcuate lugs. (2) The lug may be on the bush and the groove on the securing member. (3) A plurality of concentric lugs may engage concentric grooves. (4) (Figs. 5 and 6). A spigot 30 on the bush engages a socket 32 on the securing member : or the socket may be on the bush and the spigot on the member. The spigot may be split radially.
