Abstract

512,130. Pipe couplings. BESTA, P. Feb. 15,1939, No. 4996. [Class 99 (i)] In a flanged pipe joint in which a clamp comprises a ring 7 engaging behind the flange 4 and having means engaging the other flange 3 to press them together, the ring is in two or more parts hinged together by bolts 12 in lugs 10, 11 on the parts, one of the bolts being removed to allow the ring to be opened, and the clamp to be removed from the pipes as a whole. A U-shaped clamping lever 9 bears against the flange 3, and is pivoted on arms 8 fixed to the upper part of the ring 7. An annular rib 5 on flange 3 compresses packing in a groove 6 in flange 4. The rib and groove may be shaped for wedging engagement. In another form the ring 13, Fig. 5, which has hinged parts (not shown) surrounds the flanges 3, 4 and has a shoulder 13a engaging flange 3. Pins 15 in flange 4 engage inclined slots 14 in lugs 13c on the ring which is rotated to tighten the joint and is locked by a key 16.
