A piston and oil scraper ring assembly comprises a split L-section ring mounted with one leg 6 in a groove 7 in the piston 2 and the other leg 3, which acts as a scraper flange, directed away from the crown of the piston and disposed in a second groove 8 leading from the first groove 7 and having a radial depth less than that of the first groove. The groove 8 has a recessed portion 9 over which the leg 3 extends. Specification 651,618 is referred to.
