794,889. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938), Ltd. Dec. 18, 1956 [July 2, 1956], No. 20408/56. Class 122 (1). Piston-and-ring assemblies, particularly for internal combustion engines, comprise one or more thin helical rings 6 mounted in a helical groove 1 in the piston having a land 2 of smaller diameter at the edge 3 nearer the piston crown 4 than at the opposite edge 5. The groove may extend from the crown to the bottom of the piston and the ring 6 may be a single coil or a number of separate units, each having preferably two or more convolutions. When assembled in the cylinder bore 7 the ring 6 assumes a dished form as shown.
