929,162. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. Jan. 17, 1962 [Dec. 4, 1961], No. 43268/61. Class 122 (1). A piston-and-ring assembly comprises a helical ring 3 of quadrilateral section housed in a complementary groove 4 in the piston 1, the depth of the groove being less than the radial thickness of the groove and the latter being free to bed on the groove bottom to act as a bearer ring. The ring may be in the form of a single helical turn and a number of such rings may be used but, preferably, a multicoil ring is used. Specifications 415,322*, 754,191 and 901,990 are referred to.
