Abstract

841,975. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. Oct. 21, 1958, No. 33555/58. Class 122 (1). A piston 1 is provided with hard-metal split-bearing rings 3 having a radial thickness x greater than the depth of their grooves 2 so that they take the lateral load on the piston and prevent the latter contacting the cylinder wall 6 and hard-metal split-sealing rings 5 housed in grooves 4 having a depth greater than the radial thickness of the rings 5. The bearing rings have an axial length at least three times their radial depth and the sealing rings preferably have a radial depth at least one and one-half times their axial dimension. The bearing and sealing rings may be of tool steel. Specifications 415,322 and 486,388 are referred to.
