Abstract
960,069. Rotary internal combustion engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG A.G. July 11, 1961 [July 30, 1960], No. 25049/61. Heading F1F. End seals between the end faces of the rotor and the adjacent faces of the engine casing of a positive-displacement rotary piston I.C. engine having a stationary casing with an inner multi-arc trochoidal circumference and a multi-lobed rotor performing a planetary motion therein comprise two arcuate strips 10, 11, Fig. 1, loosely mounted in a recess 12 between radial sealing strips 3, 4 in the rotor 1. The end of one strip 10 and the opposite end of the other strip 11 are chamfered and abut wedges 16, 17 disposed between the ends of the strips and the respective radial sealing strips 3, 4. A wavy spring 18, Fig. 2, fitted in the recess 12 behind the strips 10, 11 and the wedges 16, 17 urges the strips and wedges into sealing engagement with the casing and radial strips respectively to prevent "fluttering" of the sealing strips and provide gas-tight seals at the apices of the rotor.
