A radial seal for rotary piston engines of the type having a piston with a plurality of corners planetarily rotatable within a multi-lobed working chamber, comprises a non-metallic sealing strip 1 and a protecting metallic U- shaped carrier 2 whose ends 3, 4 embrace the ends of the sealing strip. The strip and carrier may be united to form an inseparable whole. If desired, the carrier may be made box-like to protect the flanks of the sealing strip.
