1368191 Rotary-piston engines NIPPON PISTON RING CO Ltd 10 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 11421/72 Heading F1F An apex seal assembly 81 located in the groove 9 of a rotary piston 4 of a rotary piston engine, comprises two sealing members 6a, 7a having a wedge-shaped cross-section, Fig.4, which are urged by a longitudinally arcuate spring 31, Figs.10, 11, against the inner periphery 51 of a housing 5. Spring 31 has a U-shaped crosssection and may have transverse slits formed therein alternately from both sides 311, 312 Fig.12 (not shown). The touching sides 62a, 71a of the members 6a, 7a may be perpendicular to the base surfaces of the sealing members Figs. 5 and 8 (not shown).
