Abstract

994,834. Sealing rotary I.C. engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. March 19, 1962 [March 31, 1961], No. 10482/62. Heading F1F. In a rotary piston internal combustion engine (Fig. 1) in which a five lobed rotor 1 rotates inside a four lobed casing 2, inwardly sliding sealing strips 5 are mounted in grooves in the casing and are urged against the rotor by springs. Each strip 5 is formed of a plurality of segments, such as 15 in Fig. 7. Each spring may co-operate either with one segment (Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 9, not shown) and Figs. 8 and 12 two adjacent segments (Fig. 11) or with every segment (Figs. 7 and 10). In the embodiment of Fig. 12, a backing piece 32 is fitted in the groove to reduce the volume of the groove.
