Abstract
1340387 Rotary I. C. engines M J HYVARINEN 14 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 14891/71 Heading F1F A rotary I. C. engine comprises a compression cylinder 1 and a combustion cylinder 2, each cylinder defining a cylindrical cavity 17 in which is eccentrically mounted a rotary piston element 8 encircled by a ring 3 having a sealing vane co-operating with a rotatable element 13, the cavities being inter-connected by a duct 19 in which is located a valve 18 opened against a spring 16 by a cam 15 on the drive shaft 6. An ignition plug 20 is located in duct 19, and ducts 5, 12 and 14 are provided for cooling and lubricating. The plug 20 is replaced by an injector nozzle in the case of a Diesel engine. Spring urged strips 10 provide axial sealing of the pistons and vanes, and the engine casing is water or air-cooled.
