995,995. Rotary-piston engines. BETEILIGUNGS-UND PATENTVERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. March 11, 1964 [March 12, 1963], No. 10328/64. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston internal combustion engine of the trochoidal n and n+1 lobe type having a compression ratio of at least 10:1 comprises a two-lobed housing 1 (Fig. 1) containing a substantially triangular piston 2 with a trough 7 between each pair of radial sealing strips 3 whose volume is at least 15 % of the minimum volume of the corresponding working space 6, the maximum angle of inclination of each strip 3 with respect to the inner surface of housing 1 being at least 21 degrees. Each trough serves as a combustion chamber into which fuel is injected by a nozzle 4 and may have a divergent configuration in the direction of rotation of the piston. As shown in Fig. 2, each trough may comprise two divergent branches 8, 9 shaped such that the jet of fuel 10 passes along the trough substantially without touching the walls thereof. The fuel is ignited by a spark-plug 5.
