548,682. Cylinders. AKTIEBOLAGET BOLINDER-MUNKTELL. July 30, 1941. No. 9686. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1940. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXII] A packing for the joint between the cylinder and the cylinder-head of an engine &c. consists of a deformable ring 15, Figs. 1 and 5, of copper &c., which is located in a recess in the inner wall of the cylinder 10 and is of greater length in the axial direction than the recess, so that it is compressed and deformed when the adjacent surfaces of the cylinder-head 14 and the cylinder are forced into contact. The ring 15 may be protected by a sheet-metal washer 31. The ring may be restored to its original shape by means of a tool comprising two plates 20, 24, Fig. 2, bolted together, the plate 20 having circular recesses, in which are contained rollers 22. The plate 20 fits within the cylinder, and the rollers, which bear against the packing-ring 15, are forced apart and rotated by the insertion between them of a rod 30, which may be tapered and can be turned by means of a handle 29.
